June 24 (UPI) — A powerful tornado swept through the Czech Republic on Thursday devastating several cities.
At least 150 people were injured in the storm and rescue teams said there had also been deaths but an exact number was not immediately clear.
The village of Hrusky was one of the hardest-hit areas, with the mayor saying nearly half of the village had been flattened.
Videos shared to social media showed roofs blown off and windows blown out by the tornado.
Czech Interior Minister Jan Hamacek described the situation as “very serious,” adding that all available rescue units were deployed to provide assistance.
Rescue teams from throughout the country and from neighboring Austria and Slovakia were also deployed to assist.
